Jonathan Edwards – Part 2B

Jonathan J. Edwards aims to be a pillar of strength for family leaders who are driven to maintain their wealth and build a legacy. He has worked with hundreds of individuals to invigorate family communities using the resources of human, intellectual, financial, and social capital. Known for his ability to quickly grasp complex issues within a family business system and his skill in getting to the heart of the client’s personal challenges, Jay strives to be a go-to person for highly successful owners of closely-held businesses. His ease in creating consensus among family stakeholders enables him to deliver a plan that serves both the client and the long-term health of the estate.

In private financial management since 1988, Jay’s goal as a trusted advisor incorporates his technical knowledge with a keen sense for preserving wealth. Because he takes the time to know and understand his clients, he is able to periodically refine strategies to account for his clients’ natural life changes.

Jay creates a culture of openness and transparency among generations of a family, which can help empower each member to play a role in the estate planning process. Jay has worked extensively with leading authorities in their fields—James Hughes Jr., Kathy Wiseman, and Nancy Kline—to achieve mastery of his own: the effective handling of stakeholder interests, family dynamics, and diverse investments that can be key to lasting family wealth.

Jay has earned the Global Financial Steward® (GFS®) designation, a mark of distinction that demonstrates his effectiveness as a steward in a critical decision-making role and his strong commitment to fiduciary integrity and excellence. He also participates in the Global Leadership Council and the Leadership Center for Investment Stewards, which focus on inspiring responsible investment stewardship by developing standards of conduct, engaging in topical research, and delivering training programs grounded in moral, ethical, and prudent decision-making. In addition, Jay is a member of the Family Firm Institute (FFI), an international, multidisciplinary association focused on educating, connecting, and inspiring professionals who specialize in family enterprises. He has earned FFI’s Certificate in Family Business Advising (CFBA), a distinction that represents significant professional knowledge in family business issues.

Jay’s other professional designations include Chartered Life Underwriter® (CLU®), which demonstrates in-depth knowledge of the insurance needs of individuals, business owners, and professional clients; Chartered Financial Consultant® (ChFC®), certifying adherence to the ethical considerations crucial to total wealth planning; and Accredited Investment Fiduciary® (AIF®).

Jay believes in using his success to serve society. He served as director of the New Hampshire Charitable Foundation, Manchester Region, for six years, and on the foundation’s Fiscal Policy Committee. Jay also served on the board of the Old Man of the Mountain Legacy Foundation for six years, serving his final year as president. He is a past president of the Bedford Athletic Club and currently serves as a director of Earth Limited and a board member of the New Hampshire Audubon Society and Monadnock International Film Festival (Moniff).

Jay lives in Bedford, New Hampshire, with his wife Jennifer, sons Zachary and Austin, and daughter Jadyn. An outdoor enthusiast, he enjoys fly-fishing, hiking, skiing, coaching soccer, and spending time with his family and dogs.
